Celebrate the rich harvest our summer labors have produced by making this Harvest Time Glove, a fun door or wall decoration.
“God sells us all things at the price of labor.” — Leonardo da Vinci
What you need for the project:
1 cotton garden glove
Paint (recommended: American Acrylic Paints):
Red (Country Red), Yellow (Cadmium Yellow), Orange (Pumpkin), Black (Ebony Black), Green (Evergreen), White (White Wash)
Paint brushes
1 (3-inch-by-5-inch piece of heavy cardboard)
Cotton batting
Fall leaves, varied colors
Dried wheat grass
3 yards raffia
Little Crow (see instructions below)
2 sunflowers, dried or silk
Glue gun
Lightly sketch “Harvest Time” onto the front of the glove in pencil, then paint the letters in green. Draw two “patches” on the glove. Paint one red and the other orange, then outline them in black. Decorate the patches with green stripes and yellow dots.
Allowing the cardboard to extend 1-inch above the glove, glue one side of the cardboard to the back inside of the glove. The cardboard will help hold all the things you glue inside the glove. Lightly stuff the fingers and palm with cotton batting.
Arrange the fall leaves, dried wheat grass and Little Crow, and glue them to the cardboard. Loop a piece of raffia and tie it around the cuff of the glove. Glue on the sunflower and sunflower leaves.
LITTLE CROW
1 wooden egg, cut in half lengthwise
1 tongue depressor
Yellow felt or fun foam scrap
Paint (recommended: American Acrylic Paints): Black (Ebony Black). Green (Bright Green) and White (White Wash)
Black feathers
Glue gun
Glue a tongue depressor to the back, flat side of the egg, so that part of the tongue depressor hangs down below the egg and can be used to help hold the Little Crow in place. Paint the egg and tongue depressor black and allow them to dry. Cut a small triangle of felt or fun foam for the beak and glue on the round side of the egg, about 1/3 of the distance from the top.
Make eyes by dipping the end of a brush in white paint and dotting onto the egg. Allow to dry, then paint a small green dot in the center of the white dot. Let dry and finish with a small black dot for the pupil. Glue feathers on the back and sides of the egg.
