If you’re looking for something to brighten your walls for the spring, try these flowers in linen and lace. The arrangement is fun to make and will give you hours of enjoyment to look at.

If you can’t find a decorative handkerchief that you like, embroider your own.

What You’ll Need:

  • 12″x12″ linen napkin or handkerchief (with one decorative/embroidered corner)

  • 12″x12″ piece of heavyweight nonwoven interfacing

  • Ruler

  • Scissors

  • Quilter’s or disappearing fabric marker

  • Glue gun & glue sticks (or needle & thread if preferred)

  • 11″ piece of ¼” or ½” wide ribbon (for hanging)

  • Decorative ribbon, dried or silk flowers

  • Optional: buttons, beads, lace trim

Instructions:

  1. Cut & Prep the Base
Cut the interfacing to match the size of your napkin. Mark the centers of two adjacent sides and fold along this line. Stitch ¼” from the fold to create structure—this folded edge will form the top of your flower holder.

  2. Attach the Interfacing
Place the interfacing on the wrong side of the napkin with the fold pointing up and the decorative corner showing. Sew or glue the sides together with a ¼” seam, leaving the top edge open. Turn right side out and press.

  3. Shape the Cone
Fold the bottom corner up about 3 inches and press. Divide this bottom edge into thirds and mark (about 1½” each). Mark the top edge 1″ above the interfacing fold on both sides.

  4. Create Cone Shape
Fold each side inward, connecting the bottom and top marks to form a cone. Press and pin the folds. Ensure the bottom is closed and the shape is symmetrical. Glue or hand-stitch in place along the edges.

  5. Add Final Touches
Once secure and cool, fold down the decorative corner of the handkerchief toward the center and press. Attach the ribbon loop to the top back for hanging. Embellish with ribbons, beads, or buttons as desired.

  6. Fill with Flowers
Tuck dried or silk flowers into the cone and hang wherever you want to add a breath of spring!
