Harvest Time Glove Craft

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • 1 cotton garden glove (plain, light-colored works best)
  • Paints (recommended: Americana Acrylics)

    • Country Red

    • Cadmium Yellow

    • Pumpkin Orange

    • Evergreen Green

    • Ebony Black

    • White Wash

  • Paintbrushes (small detail brushes and medium flat)
  • 1 piece heavy cardboard (about 3″ x 5″)
  • Cotton batting (or scrap fabric/tissue paper for stuffing)
  • Fall leaves (real, dried, or silk)
  • Dried wheat grass
  • Raffia (about 3 yards)
  • Silk sunflower and sunflower leaves
  • Optional: Small Little Crow decoration (craft store or DIY with felt)
  • Glue gun (low-temp if kids are helping)

Autumn is the perfect time to add some cozy charm to your home—and what better way than with a handmade Harvest Time Glove? This whimsical scarecrow-style glove craft is simple enough for kids but cute enough to hang as part of your fall, Halloween, or Thanksgiving decorations.

It even comes with a Little Crow character tucked into a bundle of fall leaves!

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • 1
    1. Paint the Glove
  • 2
Lightly sketch “Harvest Time” across the front of the glove using a pencil.
  • 3
    Paint the letters green.
  • 4
Draw two patch shapes—paint one red and the other orange.
  • 5
Outline both patches in black, and add green stripes and yellow dots for a stitched, rustic feel.
  • 6
    Let dry completely.
  • 7
    2. Insert the Support
  • 8
Cut your cardboard to 3″ x 5″. Glue one side of the cardboard to the inside back of the glove (it should extend about 1″ above the top). This provides a base to glue your fall decor in place.
  • 9
    3. Stuff the Glove
  • 10
Lightly fill the glove fingers and palm with cotton batting (or use crumpled tissue, polyfil, or scrap fabric). This gives your glove shape and personality.
  • 11
    4. Decorate the Glove
  • 12
Now for the fun part—turn your glove into a mini fall bouquet!
  • 13
Glue on fall leaves and dried wheat grass behind the cardboard insert.
  • 14
Nestle your Little Crow into the glove so it looks like he’s peeking out.
  • 15
Loop and tie raffia around the glove cuff like a ribbon or bow.
  • 16
Finish by gluing on a sunflower and sunflower leaves at the base or near the fingers.

Display Tips:

  • Hang on your front door like a mini wreath

  • Display on the mantel, shelf, or classroom bulletin board

  • Use as part of a scarecrow or autumn-themed centerpiece

 Optional Variations:

  • Add googly eyes and felt wings if you’re crafting your own crow

  • Use it as a “Thanksgiving gratitude glove” by writing what you’re thankful for on each finger

  • Replace “Harvest Time” with “Happy Fall,” “Give Thanks,” or your family name

Crafting Note:

This is a great project for homeschool art time, church groups, or family night. Let kids choose their own paint colors or decorate a “glove family” with different themes for each person.
