What You’ll Need

  • 1 recipe Royal Icing

  • 1 large package Oreos

  • 1 large package sandwich waffle cookies

  • 1 package oblong cookies

  • 2 packages Lifesavers

  • 3 cotton balls

  • 5″ wire

  • Gray or black spray paint

  • Small candies or dried fruit (Red Hots, M&M’s, raisins, orange sticks)

  • Black string licorice

  • Pastry bag with decorator tips

Building the Engine

  1. Make the Hood
Stack 4 Oreos together with Royal Icing to form the engine hood. Set aside.

  2. Build the Cab
Stack 3 sandwich waffle cookies vertically. Attach 2 oblong cookies to the sides.

  3. Assemble the Chassis
Lay 1 waffle cookie flat for the base. Attach the Oreo hood on top and place the cab behind it.

  4. Attach the Wheels
Prop the engine with half a waffle cookie. Attach 4 Oreo wheels, adding a Lifesaver to the center of each. Let dry, then remove the prop.

  5. Create the Smokestack
Stack 4 Lifesavers and attach to the hood.
Push 3 cotton balls onto a wire, lightly spray gray or black, and insert into the smokestack with frosting.

  6. Decorate
Pipe frosting around the wheels and middle section. Add windows to the oblong cookies.

Holiday Magic Tip:
For entertaining, place a small dish of dry ice behind the engine. Pour hot water over it and watch your Cookie Express come to life with real steam!
