If you’re like most workers, you can’t afford the time or the money to eat lunch out every day. For this reason, many pack the same boring thing or do without lunch entirely.
Take a break from oh-so-ordinary sandwiches. Here are some economical ideas for cutting down the time it takes to make and take a variety of delicious meals.
Sandwich Alternatives
- Fresh Dip. Take along a plastic container of your favorite dip and fresh vegetables such as raw cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, or celery. Boiled eggs and chips are also good. Combine your favorite powdered salad dressing mix with plain yogurt for a delicious low-calorie dip.
- Inside-Out Sandwich. Roll a slice of luncheon meat and a slice of cheese around a bread stick. Stick toothpicks through to hold together.
- Walking Salad. Slice the top off an apple. Hollow out core, leaving bottom of apple intact. Brush hollow with lemon or pineapple juice to keep apple from browning.
Fill cavity with peanut butter mixed with raisins, cream cheese or caramels. Replace top of apple and pack in plastic wrap or sandwich bag. - Peanut Butter Switch. When you make your next peanut butter sandwich, exchange graham crackers for bread. Children especially will love this tasty surprise.
