These spooks that invade your house for a haunting Halloween party this month are the kind you and your guests will love. They are frightfully easy and their construction can involve kids young and old.

Chair-back Ghosts

For these ghosts, you will need:

• Tall white kitchen garbage bags (wide enough to fit over chair backs)
• Permanent markers in various colors
• Butcher paper or newspaper (to protect surfaces)

   Directions:

   • Spread out the garbage bag upside down (so the opening is at the top) on a butcher-paper or newspaper-covered surface, smoothing out wrinkles as you go.
   • Paint an outline or silhouette in the shape of a ghost with a permanent marker. Let marker ink dry thoroughly before slipping the bag over a dining room chair.
Note: If you prefer, paint any Halloween witch, monster or pumpkin instead of the ghost on the garbage bags — or make a variety of your favorite goblins or other Halloween-themed motif — one for each chair.

Ironing Board Ghost

This is a magic ghost, because it can disappear and reappear in a flash.

For this ghost you will need:
   • An ironing board
   • White sheet
   • Black felt
   • Tape or pins

How to Make an Ironing Board Ghost:

Stand an ironing board on its “hind” legs with the rounded end up. Drape or fasten a white sheet over the ironing board, forming the “ghost.” Cut eyes, nose, and mouth from black felt, and tape or pin them to the sheet where the face should be. When complete, you can brace this ghost slightly on a diagonal against a wall, entryway, fence, or tree — anywhere you need it.
