With Valentine’s Day coming, we all turn to making some-one we love feel special with a heart-shaped message. My favorites are Heart-Shaped Cup-cakes, a Heart Cake and Heart Shaped Edibles.

Heart-Shaped Cupcakes

  •  Cake batter
  •  Paper baking cups
  •  Marbles or aluminum foil

How to Make Heart-Shaped Cupcakes

  1. Prepare the Muffin Pan
    • Line muffin pans with paper baking cups.
    • Fill each cup halfway with cake batter.
    • Place a marble or small ball of aluminum foil between the paper liner and the pan to create the heart shape.
    • If the cups aren’t 2/3 full, add a little more batter.
  2. Bake and Decorate
    • Bake as usual and allow cupcakes to cool.
    • Frost with your favorite icing and pipe decorative frosting around the edge to define the heart shape.
    • Decorate with Valentine candies.

Heart Cake

Make a heart-shaped cake without purchasing a special pan.
    1 cake mix
    1 – 9” round cake pan
    1 – 9” square baking pan
    1 recipe for white frosting
    Cherry pie filling

How to Make a Heart Cake Without a Special Pan

  1. Bake the Cake

    • Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions.
    • Pour the batter into greased and floured 9-inch round and square cake pans.
    • Bake as instructed and let the cakes cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Assemble the Heart Cake

    • Place the square cake on the serving dish in a diamond shape.
    • Cut the round cake in half and place each half with the cut side next to the square to form a heart shape.
    • Frost the cake with white icing, and pipe a border around the outer edge to hold the filling.
    • Top with cherry pie filling.

Making Heart-Shaped Edibles

  1. Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutter Ideas
    • Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts from foods like biscuit dough or jelled gelatin.
    • For pancakes, place a heart-shaped cookie cutter on the griddle, and pour pancake batter into it.
    • Trim slices of bread into hearts to make special Valentine sandwiches.
