One of my favorite adventures for Easter is an Easter Egg Tree with little hatching chicks and bunnies hanging from its limbs. This is truly a fun project for the entire family.

Creating the Easter Egg Tree

Decorate this tree with flowers and hatching chick and bunny ornaments.

 Gather Materials

  • Tree limb with multiple branches
  • Optional spray paint
  • Plaster of Paris
  • Plastic-lined basket (large enough for the branch)
  • Easter grass
  • Tiny silk flowers
  • Glue gun

Prepare the Branch

  • Optionally spray paint the tree limb for a more polished look.
  • Mix the plaster of Paris and pour it into the plastic liner of the basket. Insert the tree branch into the plaster and let it harden.

Decorating the Tree

  • Once the plaster has set, cover it with Easter grass to hide it and make it look more festive.
  • Attach small silk flowers to the tree limbs using the glue gun for a touch of spring beauty.
  • Hang your hatching chick and bunny ornaments for a whimsical effect.

Hatching Chick and Bunny Ornaments

Store these cute chicks and funny bunnies in an open egg carton inside a bag filled with Styrofoam popcorn.

Materials Needed

  • 6 raw eggs
  • 12 (2-inch) yellow pompons for chick heads and bodies
  • 12 (1/8- to 1/4-inch) wiggly craft eyes
  • Pink felt for bunny ears
  • White felt for the inside of bunny ears
  • 1 yard narrow pink ribbon (cut into six 5-inch strips)
  • 12 (1/4-inch) light pink pompons for bunny cheeks
  • Glue gun

To make each ornament, cup an egg in your hand and tap firmly with a knife to crack the shell. Break the egg in half. Wash both halves of the shell and allow to dry thoroughly.

Glue the ends of the ribbon inside the larger half of the eggshell on opposite sides to form a handle. Glue the head and body pompons together, and attach the eyes. Glue felt beaks on the chicks.

For the bunnies, glue two small pink pompons side by side on the head for cheeks and glue the small white pompon in the middle of the cheeks.

Glue the smaller white felt ears to the larger pink felt ears. Glue the ears to the top of the head.

Set a completed chick or bunny inside the larger half of the eggshell. Glue the smaller end of the egg to the chick’s head to make it appear as if it were just hatching.
