One of the adventures of March is St. Patrick’s Day. Your children will love seeing this leprechaun windsock hanging from your porch or suspended from your dining room light fixture to add a bit of magic to this day.
LEPRECHAUN WINDSOCK
5″ x 3″ flesh-colored fun foam (face & hands)
6″ x 12″ green fun foam (body)
2″ x 12″ black fun foam (hat & shoes)
Scissors
1 small pink pompom (nose)
Wiggly eyes (or cut round pieces of black fun foam)
Red or pink permanent marker
Orange chenille trim (beard)
1 yard (1 1/2″ wide) St. Patrick’s ribbon
Craft glue
1 1/2 yards ( 3/8″ wide) gold metallic ribbon
3 buttons
2 yards ( 1/8″ wide) ribbon
For the head, cut a 3 1/2″ wide by 2 1/2″ long strip of flesh-colored fun foam and round the bottom corners to form the jaw. Cut notches at top corners to form ears. Center head on one 12″ side of the green fun foam so that the top of the head is even with the top of the green body, and glue in place. Glue the pompom nose and eyes onto the face. Draw mouth and cheeks with permanent marker. Glue beard trim around the face.
Cut hat out of a 4 1/2″ x 2″ piece of black fun foam and cut shoes out of 2″ x 3″ pieces of black fun foam. Cut hands out of 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ pieces of flesh fun foam. Glue hat on top of head so that the ears stick out. Glue hands to 6 1/2″ lengths of ribbon 1 1/2″ from the top of the green body. Glue ribbon legs to the bottom of the body, on the back side of the foam, about 1″ apart.
Roll sides of body back into a cylinder and glue closed. Decorate with a bow tie and hatband made of narrow gold ribbon with three buttons down the front. To hang, punch holes on the top sides of the body and tie a yard of narrow ribbon to each side.
