What a great holiday. I know that nowadays it has become a greeting at the end of a phone call to say, “I love you”. To me, Valentine’s Day is set aside to not only say it, but to show it. And what better way to show it than to make an edible that says, “Here is my heart. I love you.” Here are several way to do just that.
Give Someone Special A Super Kiss
- 1 cube butter or margarine
- 1 (16 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
- 12 cups regular or chocolate crispy rice cereal
- Large Plastic funnels, buttered (Tupperware is best)
- Cookie sheet
- Plastic Wrap
- Ribbon
Melt butter or margarine in large saucepan over low and medium heat. Add marshmallows and cook until marshmallows are completely melted, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add cereal; stir until well coated. Cook slightly, but not completely. Butter your fingers and press warm mixture into buttered plastic funnels and place on a cookie sheet. When cool, unmold and wrap in plastic. Add a flag with a Valentine message taped to a toothpick. Makes 2 to 4 large kisses.
Heart Shaped Treats
Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts from foods such as biscuit dough or jellied gelatin. Place an open-topped, heart-shaped cookie cutter on the griddle and pour pancake batter into the cutter (or you can just try to pour the batter in a heart shape). Trim slices of bread into hearts for special Valentine sandwiches.
Valentine Lei
Give your love with this Hawaiian Valentine.
- Plastic wrap
- Small Valentine cookies or candies or heart objects
- Red or pink ribbon
Tear off a sheet of plastic wrap as long as you want your lei/necklace to be, plus 6”. Place candy/cookies/objects face down and centered across the wrap, Leaving an extra 3” at each end. Fold top portion of wrap over sweets, then the bottom portion up. Scrunch wrap between pieces and tie with ribbon of that you have alternating goodies and bows. Knot both ends. Secure ends around neck with ribbon.
Have a great time telling all the special people in you life, “I love you.”
