Volcano Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 chocolate or other flavor bundt cake, baked
  • 1 (29-ounce) can cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 to 1/2 pound dry ice
  • 3 Solo Ultra Clear™ (9-ounce) plastic cups

Want to blow your guests away at your next party? Enter the Volcano Cake — a simple bundt cake transformed into a dramatic dessert using dry ice for a real steaming effect!

This clever party centerpiece is not only delicious but doubles as a science-inspired surprise. With cherry pie filling bubbling down like lava and mist rolling from the center, it’s a kid favorite and showstopper all in one.

Cooking Steps

  • 1
Bake your favorite bundt cake and allow it to cool completely.
  • 2
Spoon cherry pie filling over the top of the cake, letting it drip down the sides like “lava.”
  • 3
Take one plastic cup and place it in the hollow center of the bundt cake (leave it empty).
  • 4
Place small dry ice chips in the other two cups (use gloves!).
  • 5
Just before serving, pour very hot water over the dry ice in one of the cups and nestle it inside the center cup within the cake. Mist will begin to roll out like a steaming volcano.
  • 6
When the steam slows down, swap in the second cup of dry ice with more hot water to continue the effect.

Serves: 10–12
