Washington’s Cherry Tarts

Materials Needed:

  • Standard pie crust recipe (enough for small tart crusts)
  • Foil tart pans
  • Fork (for pricking the crusts)
  • Heavy paper (for hatchet pattern)
  • Cherry pie filling
  • Baking instructions for pie crust

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Crusts:
    Use your standard pie crust recipe to make small crusts in foil pans. Prick them with a fork to prevent puffing during baking.

  2. Cut Out the Hatchets:
    Draw a pattern of small hatchets on heavy paper and cut them out. Bake the crusts according to the recipe, and bake the pie-crust hatchets on a separate baking sheet.

  3. Assemble the Tarts:
    Once the crusts are baked and cooled, fill them with cherry pie filling. Place one of the pie-crust hatchets on top of each tart as decoration.
