I have been going to all of the Associated Food Stores in Utah signing my new book Tipping the Scales in Your Favor and my Roughingit Easy series. Yesterday I was at the Dick’s Market in Centerville. Just as I was packing to leave a woman came up to me and ask if I would have a minute to talk to her. She said that she had declared in July of last year that she was going to lose weight. Her Doctor had warned her that if she did not she was headed to major health challenges. How many of us have heard that message? She decided to do something about it.
Wanting to lose the weight she started to get up at 4:30 AM so she could go to the gym and get a good workout before she went to work. That required her to go to bed by 8:30 PM. In the winter she would have to get up a little earlier to shovel the walks so she could get out of the driveway. What courage!
As we talked she told me how sad she was at gaining the ten pounds back. I shared with her a sign that I had seen in an office earlier that week. It said, “It is not about being perfect but about making progress.” She was still down twenty pounds and her health had really improved.
Another lady stopped by to talk to me and shared that she had lost 20 pounds since April and was discouraged, as she had not lost more. Twenty pounds in my book is a great start. What these women both had in their favor was that they were on the journey. The most important thing was that they stay on the path.
One of the ladies said that she had met and talked to Deni Hill who won the home contest for the Biggest Loser. She said that Deni said, “It is hard to be overweight, and it is hard to lose weight and it is hard to keep the weight off. All you have to do is choose which hard you want.”
I would so agree with that. Keeping my weight off is much easier than it was to be over weight. What I would say to both of these women. Stop and pat yourself on the back for what you have done. So many people start to lose weighthen get discouraged then put the weight back on plus more.
One lady came back to get more help and we ended up going shopping in the store to help her pick out products that would help her on her weight loss quest.
Start the journey today and if you are on the path never give up. Just remember it took a long time to put the weight on and it may take a long time to take it off. Just know, YOU CAN DO IT!
