Every mall, discount store, dollar store, grocery store, and craft store is abounding in Easter baskets this season. They’re everywhere you look. The best baskets with all the personality, though, are the ones you and your children —even preschoolers — make together.
Paper-Bag Bunny Basket
Here is a simple, inexpensive Paper-Bag Bunny Basket you can make for every family member — and it’s guaranteed to bring a smile and a hug.
Materials Needed
- List of materials for the Paper-Bag Bunny Basket:
- 1 lunch-size paper bag (brown or pastel color)
- Pencil
- Scissors
- 1 small pink pompom
- Magic marker
- Pipe cleaners
- Cotton ball
- Glue
- 1 (1/2 gallon) milk carton (washed)
- Easter grass and candies
Lay the paper bag flat with the glued side down. Sketch a pair of rabbit ears on the top half of the bag. Cut around the ear shapes, leaving the front and back ears attached to the bag. Cut the sides of the bag even with the bottom of the ears and cut the milk carton to the same height.
With a magic marker, decorate the bag with a bunny face and finish with a small pink pompom nose, pipe-cleaner whiskers and a cotton-ball tail. Insert the milk carton in the bag for support and fill with Easter grass or coconut grass (see below) and candies. Glue the front and back ears together at the very tops.
Coconut Grass: Place shredded coconut in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Add 2 to 3 drops of green food coloring and shake vigorously until the coconut is colored. If the color is too bright, add more coconut and shake again; if too light, add more food coloring and shake again. Spread the coconut out on waxed paper or plastic wrap to dry before using.
