Making a snowman is one of my most memorable experiences as a child. Each time the snow fell, we would rush out and see if it could be packed into a snowball to make a snowman. With this easy method of making a snowman, you’ll never need to wait for the snow to fall again. Just pull out the popcorn popper and begin popping the corn. In a few magical moments, you have a snowman that will never melt away.

Popcorn snowman

    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    1 (16-ounce) package miniature marshmallows
    20 cups popcorn
    Vegetable oil spray
Small black top hat (available at craft stores or make your own of felt or paper)
    Candy or nuts
1 (1 inch by 14 inch) strip of red felt

Melt the butter and marshmallows on low in a saucepan or microwave and pour over the popcorn. Spray your hands with a vegetable oil spray. Form the popcorn into three balls – small, medium and large. To secure the balls on top of each other, form a well in the top of the large and medium balls and a corresponding bump on the bottom of the medium and small balls so they nest on top of each other.

Decorate the snowman with a top hat, and use candy or nuts for the face and buttons. Make a jaunty red scarf for his neck out of a strip of felt.

Have fun with this! You could create miniature snowmen by making two balls, decorate their faces, use pretzels for the arms and a chocolate cookie with a Rollo on the top for a hat. This is a great gift for your friends. If you like this idea, try the next one with the same recipe.

Popcorn Garland

This is a fun idea making a garland to hang by the front door, and when you have friends come to visit, you can snip off a popcorn ball treat for them to munch on when they leave. The garland is also a cute surprise for someone you want to remember.

Use the above recipe for the popcorn.

You will also need:

    Plastic wrap
    1/4” ribbon
3 yards plaid ribbon for florist bow

Pop popcorn and prepare the same as the snowman. Cut a length of plastic wrap the desired length of the garland and lay it out on the table. Place the popcorn balls lengthwise on the plastic wrap, about 2” apart. Fold the plastic wrap in from both sides, overlapping it to securely cover each popcorn ball. Tie a bow with 1/44” ribbon between each popcorn ball and top the garland with a large plaid florist bow.
